Today marked the start of negotiations between our hospital and National Nurses United on your next contract. At today’s session:
The parties exchanged numerous proposals for discussion as negotiations continue
The parties discussed new technologies that, in the Hospital’s view, promise to enhance patient care through resources that support bedside nurses.
The Hospital seeks to leverage technology to make the bedside nursing job easier, in part through, for example:
Digital whiteboards for use in patient education and discharge planning
Artificial intelligence technology to assist nurses in review of charts, lab, and test results
The Hospital’s proposal aligns with standards for Magnet hospitals including an “ethical and professional responsibility to contribute to patient care, the organization, and the profession in terms of new knowledge, innovations and improvements.” (italics added)
We look forward to continuing these discussions with the Union when we return to the table on Thursday.
During bargaining, the teams discuss issues important to nurses and present proposals.
Proposals are discussed and may be revised, added to, or removed as both sides work toward agreement.
